SMV Initial AVADE Level I Online With In-Person Level II and III Training
This class teaches Behavioral Health employees how to prevent violence in the workplace.

This hybrid level I-III class is only for Sharp HealthCare Behavioral Health Services employees who have direct interaction with patients. It is designed to provide training to help you prevent violence in the workplace via a program known as AVADE (awareness, vigilance, avoidance, defense, escape/environment).
This training offers informative, proactive strategies and interventions that can help prevent and mitigate fear, conflict, and aggression while creating a culture of safety. The class is comprehensive and relevant to stop the escalation and reduce the risk of injury to staff.
You will receive training strategies and techniques to mitigate escalated and violent behavior through proactive communication skills and techniques for real-world escalated situations. The five-hour in-person session will also cover workplace violence, verbal de-escalation techniques, self-defense tactics, and defensive control tactics.

After registering, the next business day you will be assigned the AVADE Universal Precautions for Workplace Violence Prevention online modules via Workday Learning. Completion of the online module is mandatory before attending the in-person training. Staff must present the completion certificate for the online module to the instructor during the in-person session.

Parking Information
Please park in your normal spot on campus or in the garage on Birmingham Drive. The entrance to the Birmingham parking garage requires an activated employee badge.

Special Instructions
- In order to receive the completion certificate for this training, you are expected to participate and return demonstrate AVADE Level II and III skills taught in the class.
- Classes may be canceled due to low enrollment. If a class is canceled, you will be notified at least two days in advance and will have the opportunity to attend another date. If you need to cancel, please do so online or by calling 1-800-82-SHARP (1-800-827-4277).
What to Bring
- Students must present the instructor with a completion certificate (hard copy or digital) from the AVADE Universal Precautions for Workplace Violence Prevention online modules in Workday Learning
- Please wear comfortable clothes and low or no heal, closed-toe shoes
- A break will be provided. Please plan to bring your own food and beverages
CEUs
Five (5.0) CEUs will be awarded to RNs, LVNs, LPTs and RTs for the in-person portion of this course only. Please provide your license number during registration to receive your CEUs.
