Epic FAQs

All Sharp team members who will be using Epic receive direct information on available training options. Please do not sign up for training offered through Epic UserWeb.

Epic’s Learning Management System, called EpicU, offers role-specific pre-class e-Learning, training, post-class exercises and activities, etc. Sharp uses this system for Epic training registration, online learning, assessments, activities, evaluations and content. EpicU uses Sharp’s single sign-on function for user login.

A training track is the series of educational activities required for a given Epic user role.

All users who perform their work in Epic must complete training and pass proficiency assessment(s) to receive Epic access.

Providers and staff that have Epic experience may attempt to test out of training by completing and passing the assessment. The test-out option requires a passing score of 80% or higher and is only available for one attempt. If you do not pass the assessment, you will need to complete recorded training.

Epic Foundation training is designed to give you the information you need in the most efficient and effective way possible. These lessons walk you through core Epic concepts and include interactive workflow simulations. The clinical scenarios shown might not apply directly to your practice, but you will learn the basics of how Epic works.

Sharp specific training will be provided by your entity Clinical Informatics or Training team. This training includes personalizing your view of Epic, setting up your Notes and preferred Orders as well as introducing organization and department specific workflow.

Your training track will be assigned to you in EpicU. You will receive an email with details related to your training.

You must complete all required training. On occasion, there are additional recommended components. You are highly encouraged to complete these components as well.

You will be provided a few options for locations to complete your training, including the Ruffin Training Center located on the 2nd floor of 4000 Ruffin Road, Suite D, San Diego. Please work with your Clinical Informatics team to schedule your training session.

Yes, the Epic training environment – or Playground – is available for you to practice workflow, review concepts, and just explore the Epic Foundation System. Information about the Playground environment is available in EpicU. You will have access to an Exercise Companion, Quick Start Guides and Tip Sheets to help you practice in the Playground environment.

When receiving training and practicing concepts, you will use training patients specific for your role in the Epic training environment. Your practice environment Login Information: User ID, password and practice patient is available in EpicU, from within the Materials section.
